Everything You Need to Know About Rally Wristbands at Pappy Hoel Campground

If you are staying at Pappy Hoel Campground during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, one of the first things you will receive at check-in is your rally wristband.

For first time riders, the process can feel a little confusing at first, especially after a long travel day into Sturgis. But once you understand how the system works, it is actually very simple.

Here is everything you need to know about rally wristbands before arriving at camp.

Purchasing Early Saves You Money

One of the biggest things riders should know is that purchasing wristbands early can save you money.

Pappy Hoel Campground offers early bird pricing before rally season gets closer. As the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaches, wristband prices increase, especially after major concert lineups and bands are announced.

A lot of returning riders buy early specifically to lock in lower pricing before demand spikes. If you already know you are attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, purchasing ahead of time is usually the smartest move.

Your First Stop Is the General Store

When you arrive at Pappy Hoel Campground, your first stop should be the General Store.

This is where guests check in, receive their wristbands, handle registration, and get campground information for the week. The registration desk staff help direct riders through the process and answer questions about camping areas, cabins, RV spots, and campground access.

Staff Will Put Your Wristband On For You

One important thing guests should know is that campground staff place the wristbands on you during check in.

Guests should not try to put the wristbands on themselves. The wristbands are secured by staff at the registration desk to make sure everything is fitted correctly and that only registered campers get wristbands.

Once it is on, you should plan on wearing it for the duration of your stay.

Wristbands and RV Spots Are Separate

Another common misunderstanding for first time riders is that wristbands do not automatically reserve an RV spot.

If you are bringing an RV, you must separately purchase an RV site in addition to your wristbands. The wristbands cover campground access, while the RV reservation secures your actual camping location on property.

Tent camping is different. If you are tent camping at Pappy Hoel Campground, all you need is your wristband. No separate tent site reservation is required.

Cabins also work differently because cabin reservations already include wristbands as part of the stay.

Understanding these differences ahead of time makes the booking process much easier.

If Your Wristband Falls Off, Do Not Throw It Away

Sometimes wristbands loosen, fray, or become uncomfortable after several days of riding, swimming, showers, and rally activities.

If your wristband falls off, keep it and bring it into the General Store. Staff can replace it for you as long as you still have the original wristband that came off.

Please Do Not Cut Off Your Wristband Yourself

One of the biggest things campground staff ask guests not to do is cut the wristband off themselves.

If you no longer want to wear the wristband because it is too tight or uncomfortable, the easiest thing to do is simply come into the General Store with the wristband still on your wrist and let staff know. They will cut it off for you, collect the old wristband, put a new wristband on you, and properly dispose of the old wristband.

This keeps everything organized and avoids confusion later during rally week.

One Common Mistake First Time Riders Make

Another thing that sometimes confuses first time guests is the difference between Pappy Hoel Campground cabins and Full Throttle Saloon cabins.

If you are staying in Full Throttle Saloon cabins, you do not pick up your cabin keys inside the General Store at Pappy Hoel. Those keys are picked up at a separate building located along the main road.

A lot of first time riders accidentally go to the wrong location at first, so knowing this ahead of time can save time after arriving.

You Will Be Escorted to Your Site

After registration is complete and wristbands are on, campground staff help escort guests directly to their assigned area.

Whether you are staying in a cabin, RV site, or tent camping section, staff guide you through the campground to make sure you arrive exactly where you need to be. This becomes especially important during peak rally days when traffic around camp gets heavy and the property fills up quickly.

Arrival Timing Matters

Getting wristbands and checking in is always easier during daylight hours.

The best arrival window for most guests is early morning through mid afternoon. This allows plenty of time for registration, unloading, and getting escorted to your site before nighttime traffic and activity increase around the campground.

If you arrive after dark, parking and placement will not occur until the morning. You will park outside of the General Store for the night.

For first time guests, rally check in may seem overwhelming at first, but the process at Pappy Hoel Campground is designed to keep things organized, fast, and rider friendly.

Get your wristband, follow your escort to camp, settle into your spot, and after that the rally really begins.

Once you are checked in, everything else becomes about the ride, the people, and the experience waiting for you in the Black Hills.
